Munsell System

A system of color notation based on three responses of the human eye to color; the perception of Hue, Value, and Chroma. Each color is identified with reference to these three characteristics. The system has been widely used and generally approved since its introduction by Albert F. Munsell in 1915, and in recent years certain faults in the spacing of colors have been observed and work has been done toward correcting them and improving the system. This method of color notation is explained in The Munsell Book of Color [1929] and in A Practical Description of the Munsell System [1937] by T. M. Cleland. [p. 268]
